IRGC claims strike on US base in Jordan and tighter grip on Hormuz

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has launched a “decisive response” against US targets, striking a US Marine Corps base in Jordan with ballistic missiles and claiming to have killed a large number of US forces and destroyed a helicopter—though there has been no confirmation from US or Jordanian officials. The IRGC says the attacks have “tightened the grip” on the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes come after US attacks on Iran’s Larak Island and Sirik province, which Iranian officials say killed four civilians, including a four-year-old child, at a wedding party and hit a fish meal factory, fishing pier and maritime tower. Jordan has also been caught up in the escalation, with air defence systems intercepting projectiles and sirens sounding in Mafraq and Aqaba.

To discuss the latest developments, we are joined by Al Jazeera correspondents Sinem Koseoglu in Tehran and Aksel Zaimovic in Doha.
